Accessibility

NWSRA (Northwest Special Recreation Association)

NWSRA exists to provide outstanding opportunities through recreation for people with disabilities. The district offers inclusion assistance for individuals needing accommodations. Participants should provide two weeks’ notice for aide requests. Contact NWSRA at (847) 392-2848 for therapeutic recreation services.

Parks

Cooperation

Parks are for everyone to enjoy and should not be used as a dumping ground for litter, garbage, or waste. Pet owners must remove waste immediately from park property.

Pets (Control of Pets)

Pets must be leashed and licensed. Pets are prohibited from playgrounds and indoor facilities unless participating in district-sponsored programs. Service animals performing duties are exempt.

Facilities

Smoking Policy

No cigarette, pipe, or cigar smoking will be allowed in any of the Park District facilities. The prohibition applies to district activities and private rentals.

Camera Restrictions

The use of any visual recording device in any protected area is prohibited. Protected areas include locker rooms, bathrooms, showers, and dressing facilities. Violators may be banned and fined.

Programs

Child Car Seats

Parents and guardians must provide child restraint systems for children 7 years or younger on district-transported trips, or sign waivers. All participants must wear seatbelts.

Photo Disclaimer

Photographs and videos are periodically taken of people participating in Park District programs. Participants consent to usage for promotional purposes, including its videos, live streaming, brochures, flyers, and other publications without additional prior notice.

Participation

Participants must behave appropriately. Three notices of inappropriate behavior or one severe incident may result in removal pending a meeting. Behavior contracts may be required for continued participation.

Waiver/Release

Participants acknowledge inherent risks and must determine physical fitness before participation. Consulting physicians is advised for pregnant, disabled, or recently injured participants.

Risk Warning

Despite proper preparation and supervision, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program, including injuries from weather, falls, poor conditioning, equipment defects, and supervision issues.

Behavior Policy

Unacceptable behaviors include disruption, rule refusal, harassment, profanity, vandalism, theft, illegal substances, gang activity, inappropriate dress, weapons, and excessive displays of affection. Removed participants forfeit fees.

Safety

Emergency Shelter

Park Place serves as an emergency shelter during declared disasters, potentially requiring program postponement or cancellation.

Lightning

Three lightning prediction systems are installed at Park Place, Hoosier Grove, and Rahlfs Woods. A 15-second horn blast signals danger; three 5-second blasts indicate all-clear. Systems operate April through October.

Video Surveillance Policy

The district operates surveillance systems to provide a safe and secure environment for its patrons and staff. Footage access is restricted to authorized personnel. Unauthorized sharing by employees may result in termination.

Registration

Rates & Fees

Residents receive priority registration. Nonresident fees support equitable financing. Employees of businesses within district boundaries may receive resident rates with proper identification.

Refund Policy

Full refunds apply when the district cancels programs. Refunds minus service charges apply if requested four days before start. Prorated refunds with charges apply for later requests. Service charges: $5 for programs $10+, 50% for programs under $10. Trips require replacement or district cancellation for refunds.

Service Charge Policy

Service charges apply to all non-cancellation refunds ($5 minimum for programs $10 or more; 50% of fee for programs under $10).

Cancelations

The minimum number of participants must be registered. Class cancellations may be announced with 24-hour notice; full refunds are issued.

Transfer Policy

Transfers are honored if space exists and the participant meets age requirements. Additional fees apply if needed.

Scholarships

Residents experiencing economic hardship may apply confidentially through Guest Services at 630.483.3010.
